Kedon Slovis Draft Prospect Player Profile
Kedon Slovis is a former 3 Star recruit out of Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. According to MaxPreps, Slovis got his first start during the 2017-18 season where he threw for a total of 2,987 yards with 251 completions out of 392 attempts. Even though this is pretty good efficiency from a junior quarterback, the stat that jumped out to me the most is that he threw for 32 touchdowns in only 11 games. His senior year at Desert Mountain was not as efficient, as Slovis threw for 2,542 yards with only 183 completions out of 294 attempts.
Slovis made an instant impact when he first put on a USC uniform. According to ESPN, Slovis threw for a total of 3,242 yards and completed 260 out of 362 passes with 28 touchdowns as a true freshman. It can be tough to follow an impressive debut season, but that is exactly what he did. During the 2020 season Slovis threw for 1,921 yards and completed 177 out of 264 passes. I know what you are thinking, those stats are not better than his freshman year, but those numbers are from 6 games.
Kedon Slovis Strengths
Confidence

USC Trojans quarterback Kedon Slovis
Kedon Slovis is one of the most confident quarterbacks I have seen in college football. Whenever he steps on the field he looks zoned in and ready to lead USC down the field. Although I think that Slovis is a very raw prospect physically, he is NFL ready mentally. This will definitely help raise his draft stock especially if he is drafted to sit and learn for a few years. After spending a year or two on the bench behind an experienced quarterback perfecting his craft, I think he will be a contender for a QB1 slot.
Patience
When watching the Holiday Bowl against the University of Iowa, I noticed that Slovis is very calm in the pocket. During the Holiday Bowl, I realized that he was lined up a lot in the shotgun. I would imagine this was the game plan going into that game because of how powerful Iowa’s defensive line is. With this in the back of Slovis’ mind, he must have had confidence in his offensive line that night.
Reading the Defense
Slovis’ ability to read the defense is very impressive and one of the best in the 2022 NFL Draft. In the Holiday Bowl, he did a fantastic job of keeping the defense on their toes. In the first quarter USC were in the redzone on the 4-yard line. Slovis used his eyes to make the defense think he was going to throw to Amon-Ra St. Brown, who Ken Noble had ranked a top 5 wr last draft season, and completed a touchdown pass to Drake London. His patience and confidence is what makes him NFL ready, but I would not overlook his ability to read the defense.
Kedon Slovis Areas for Improvement
Accuracy
Slovis’ accuracy is the biggest red flag that I see when watching his film. In 2020 Kedon Slovis threw seven interceptions in only six total games (three of which were in the Pac-12 Championship). This stat is alarming to me because USC did not face a single team who was ranked in the top-25. This wasn’t just the case in 2020, this has been the case throughout his whole career at USC. In the game against Stanford last week, he completed 65.4% of passes while throwing one touchdown and one interception. According to ESPN, his adjusted QBR for that game was only 44. This was his lowest QBR since the first game of his freshman year against Fresno St. This is not something you want to see from someone who is ranked as a top ten quarterback in the nation.
Kedon Slovis’ Draft Stock

Kedon Slovis of USC
Based off of what I have seen from Slovis so far this year, and comparing it to what I have seen from other quarterbacks in the 2022 NFL Draft, I would say that Slovis is currently the 6th best QB available in the 2021 NFL Draft. If Slovis turns around and improves his accuracy throughout the season, I can see him rising up draft boards. If I were to draft Slovis today, I would value him in the mid-late 3rd round. I rank him this low right now because if he can’t consistently put points on the board in college, he won’t be able to do so in the NFL.
Kedon Slovis Final Thoughts
Kedon Slovis has all of the tools mentally to make it into the NFL, but has to work on his accuracy. Slovis’ patience in the pocket is rare for someone of his age. His ability to drop back in the pocket, trust his offensive line and make a play is very impressive. Also, when watching his film, I see nothing but confidence when he is on the field. This is why I think that if he is drafted by a team who has an experienced quarterback like the Falcons or Rams and spends that time on perfecting his craft, he will have a successful career in the NFL.
